UN Sustainable development goals

The UN Sustainable development goals were adopted by global heads of state and government at the New York summit meeting on 25 September 2015. Since they came into force on 1 January 2016, we have been working actively to implement and maintain sustainability at LEGOLAND® Hotel & Conference. We have therefore been reviewing our working methods, procedures and purchasing, to enable us to come as close to our objective as possible - to help making the world a better place for future generations.

Our work on sustainability

As an active partner with Danish Conference Venues, our work is based on a defined global goals index, developed in cooperation with Hansen and Ersbøll. The global goals index has been developed by Lotte Hansen, who has spent many years working hard to produce measurable results in the area of sustainability. The purpose of the index is to ensure transparency and enable hotel guests and other users to select conference venues and book meetings on an informed basis.

You can see our certificate and our special achievements here. You can read about our specific work on the individual global goals below.

SEA LIFE Trust

In addition, as part of the Merlin Entertainments Group, we have set up the Merlin SEA LIFE TRUST, the focus of which is to protect the marine environment.

The SEA LIFE Trust is a registered charity that operates globally to protect the world’s oceans and the amazing marine life that lives in them.

Our vision is a world in which the seas are healthy, properly protected and full of diverse life.

We are fighting to keep the oceans free of plastic, and to put an end to the over-exploitation of marine life by arranging global projects and campaigns, as well as our marine protected areas.

Merlin’s Magic Wand

The most natural thing in the world was for us to concentrate on charity work for children, and so we have set up a foundation to facilitate this.

Merlin Entertainments Limited's special charitable trust, Merlin’s Magic Wand, enables seriously ill, disabled and disadvantaged children to experience the thrill of their lifetime.

Merlin’s Magic Wand gives these children the opportunity to enjoy themselves together with their friends and family by providing them with tickets to one of our attractions as well as financial support with their travel costs.

We have also developed a number of projects where the magic is brought to children who are too ill to visit us themselves, for example, sensory rooms and specially adapted play areas at various hospitals and hospices.

Merlin’s Magic Wand cooperates directly with the children, families and organisations who would enjoy an adventure at one of our attractions.
