Sustainability at LEGOLAND® Billund
At LEGOLAND® Billund, we work with sustainability across many different areas. We are Green Attraction certified, which places a number of sustainability-related requirements on us as an attraction. Among other things, we work with topics such as food waste, waste management, sustainable food, energy savings, and many other areas. Some of these areas are described in our environmental policy and energy policy below.
Environmental Policy at LEGOLAND® Billund
We work purposefully to minimize our impact on the environment and strive to conserve natural resources.
We comply at all times with Merlin Entertainments’ policies and objectives in this area, and we have a particular focus on the following aspects in our park:
We hold regular meetings where employees are involved and informed about the status and progress of environmental initiatives and performance indicators, and we prioritize exploring new knowledge and technologies that can help protect the environment.
We place great emphasis on recycling and minimizing waste. This is reflected, among other things, in our restaurants, where we actively work to reduce food waste. We focus on making the best possible use of ingredients, reducing overproduction, and ensuring proper food handling by planning our purchasing and production based on guest flow, seasonality, and expected demand, so that we prepare the right amount of food at the right time. Where possible, we use ingredients across multiple outlets to ensure resources are used efficiently.
In general, we focus on sorting waste and recycling as much as possible. Our guests have the opportunity to sort their waste in accordance with Danish legislation, similar to what many are familiar with from home. We have five waste stations with a total of seven fractions for bottles, cans/deposit items, cardboard and paper, plastic and packaging, as well as residual waste.
All our accommodation sites are Green Key certified.
An important part of our efforts to conserve natural resources and minimize environmental impact takes place through close and active collaboration with our suppliers and other partners. Our shared goal is to develop new products and processes that are as environmentally friendly as possible, while also ensuring a great experience for our guests.
Energy Policy at LEGOLAND® Billund
We actively work to reduce our energy consumption, and we comply with applicable legislation and other requirements within the energy field. As part of Merlin Entertainments, we follow the organization's overall CO₂ reduction targets, and we also have a number of sub-targets for energy reduction, which we monitor and revise annually.
All employees are responsible for actively participating in energy reduction by following ongoing recommendations and contributing suggestions for energy-saving initiatives.
We continuously invest in energy-efficient solutions and sustainable technology and communicate openly with our suppliers and other stakeholders to support these efforts.
